The College of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG) has declared a nationwide strike effective Tuesday, 12th April 2022. In a letter signed by National Secretary, Samuel Opoku and the National President, Frederick Forkuo Yeboah on 4th April 2022 the indefinite strike will affect all the Forty-six (46) Public Colleges of Education.
According to the Association, their issues for the action are grounded on the following:
- Non-payment of migration arrears
- Wrong placement of First Degree Holders
- Partial payment of Office Holding Allowances
- Exclusion of payment of Generic Allowances
- Non-payment of Interim Market Premium Arrears
It will be recalled that a notice to embark on strike was served in January 2022 but could not be carried through due to the intervention of the National Labour Commission (NLC).
It is unfortunate that since January 2022, no commitment has been demonstrated to find solutions to the issues raised except for the partial payment of office holding allowances. The date given by the NLC for the government team to address the concerns raised had been clasped but no tangible solution had been processed.
“In the circumstances, we have no option than to embark on industrial action to press home our demands for equitable and better conditions of service.”
