“There goes Rawlings when we shall see One of him again….”

On Tuesday, September 15, 2020, the military rulers of Mali paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s former president, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings will subsequently be the last respect from disciples to their master.

On the 5th of September 2021, when Rawlings resurrected, he first appeared to Duombouya the new military leader of Guinea in the words “If The People Are Crushed By Their Elites, It Is Up To The Army To Give The People Their Freedom“.

Who is Duombouya? Mamady Duombouya is a Guinea military officer serving as the interim president since October 1, 2021. Duombouya led a coup d’état on the 5th of September 2021 that overthrew the president Alpha Condé. Duombouya is a member of Guinea’s Special Forces and a former French Legionnaire.

Who is Alpha? Alpha Condé, born on 4th March 1938 is a Guinea politician who served as the fourth president of Guinea from 2010-2021. Condé spent a decade in opposition to a succession of regimes in Guinea. He run rather unsuccessfully against President Lansana Conté in 1993 and 1998 in the presidential elections and led a Rally of the Guinea people (RPG), an opposition party. Standing again in the 2010 presidential elections, Condé was elected president in the second round of voting. Upon election, he promised to strengthen Guinea as a democracy and fight corruption (Protecting the public purse). Condé was reelected in the 2020 general elections. Condé’s critics claim there was fraud in the electoral process and the elections.

The move is now on. There is an outpouring of anger, frustration, and bitterness across the African continent. We can see the waves across the continent, moving here and moving there like the days of military coups from the erstwhile colonial administration. The recent one in Burkina Faso. Men’s hearts are failing to fear. The chief priests, Pharisees, and the scribes are scheming to halt the move of the waves but can they? The high priest has prophesied it already, “There’s a wind coming and it’s not 2019. It’ll begin from 2020 onwards. The Arab Spring uprising is coming; it’s coming not just to Ghana, West Africa, but all over if we don’t do something, if we don’t give them hope”.

The deposed leader once put his faith in Col. Duombouya to help him keep his grip on power in turbulent West Africa State. Col. Duombouya is from the Malinked community like the deposed president. The same toppled president a few years ago brought in Doumbuoya and made him the head of the Special Forces Group, an elite military unit created by Alpha Condé to protect him. The coup d’état in Guinea isn’t the first one where an employee has kicked out their appointer. We saw it happen in Egypt, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo and it will not be the last. It would however awaken the conscience of African leaders if they have any at all. These leaders slumber in piles of cash, cars, houses, and accelerated promotion whilst ordinary citizens suffer in abject poverty and penury.

Is this the return of Rawlings? Let him that have an ear hear and take heed. If one pretends to be deaf, death is inevitable. Let him that have eyes see the flashing red light signals and right the wrongs.
